The most important part of our mission as the Writers Association of Northern Appalachia (WANA) is to advocate for writers in the region. You will find some of our most recent efforts on this page.

One way we advocate for our members is to demonstrate the value of the literature written by writers from the region and/or about the region. We recently completed the first draft of our working bibliography. We would love for you to read and respond to our latest endeavor. Click here to viewed our first draft online: More than Coal Dust and Moonshine: A Working Bibliography of Northern Appalachian Literature.

WANA President, Christina Fisanick, wrote a letter to the editor of the New York Times in response to Barbara Kingsolver’s article, Read Your Way Through Appalachia. Her letter was published on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
